How do I add a navbar to the Marketing layout

I'm building a page similar to the Marketing sample, but I want to add a sliding side menu. I have the menu set up and it works on other pages, but the sample data for Marketing doesn't have a menu and only shows a white vertical strip where the menu should be. Is this a special single page setup?

Yes, this is special setup. And if you want to change header layout, you can do it in Theme options > Layout > Header section.
