Favicon .ico file type not allowed to upload after updated to wordpress 4.7.1

Hi.

After the recent update to wordpress 4.7.1, I can't upload the .ico favicon file requested in BeTheme options > Global. It gives the error Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.

Is this a BeTheme or Wordpress error?

I'm on the same boat. I've tried to use the WP native fature to set up the favicon, but it works only in the backend...from the front-end I still have the "Be" favicon.
I've just sent a PM just in case...

No, there is no solution because this is WP 4.7.1 issue. WP developers broke file upload in latest version. This was already reported by many users and they promised to fix it in 4.7.2 version. More details about this issue you can read in the topics below:

@badertakhin As we wrote above, it is not dependent on us and we all need to wait for WP update. The only way to change favicon for now is to replace existing favicon on FTP with your own.

Do you know under what directory in FTP we can find the .ico file in?

I found it, replaced via FTP and still It shows the "Be" favicon...are there any alternative ideas?

Favicon path is /wp-content/themes/be/images/favicon.ico You must replace wrong file and that's why it doesn't work.

i'm noticing the same issue on 4.7.2 wordpress, still can't upload the favicon file

The issue was initially set to be fixed in 4.7.2. But since 4.7.2 was an urgent security release, the fix didn’t make it into that version. It’s now supposed to be fixed in 4.7.3.

I am having the same problem but I can upload those filetypes in WP 4.7.2 site without a theme. Might not be a WP problem.

@bsbarlow Did you read above article? WP developers clearly stated that the problem is on their side and they supposed to fix it in 4.7.3 version.

Install this plugin:

Disable Real MIME Check

Restores the ability to upload non-image files in WordPress 4.7.1 and 4.7.2. Please remove the plugin once WordPress 4.7.3 is available!

I am using 4.8.2 and have the same issue.  But I was able to add the favicon at public html level via ftp successfully! (Error message at Uploader: http failure.)
