Sidebar on Categories Page

I know there's a sidebar showing when on the Categories Page for Lifestyle Theme. But on my blog its missing now, where can I re-enable it? I do not see any option on the Sidbar under Muffin Group options. There's only for single pages and posts but not on the Categories page.

  • Hi,
The sidebar in the options is for pages not posts. To set the sidebar on category pages you have to edit the main blog page ( it has to be set in settings>reading) and set the sidebar there (under the muffin builder)
    thanks
  • I'm not sure if we're on the same page, but I'm trying to show up the sidebar here, see screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/6dQ9ambO7BU

Based on your sample page for lifestyle, there's a sidebar on that, check your sample page link: http://themes.muffingroup.com/be/lifestyle/category/hot-articles/

I followed your instructions to go to Settings -> Reading but there's no sidebar settings there under muffin builder.
  • Ok, so lets start again.
Settings -> Reading is not for sidebars. I told you to go there and set the main blog page, this is important. There is an option there: posts page and there you must set the page that will be your blog page (there can be only one blog page per website).

Now, go to appeareance widgets and there you will see:
    1. Blog sidebar - this will appear on the main blog page.
    2. category sidebar - if you create any categories you will have a widget area for each category

You can also create any sidebar in theme options>sidebars and use it on any post or main blog page you want. The categories sidebar will be the same as the blog ones.

After you create a sidebar or choose an exisitng one and drag some widgets to it you can edit your post and under the muffin builder you will see a layout section that has these options: no sidebar, left, right, both sides. There is also a drop down list to select the sidebar.

    This is it.
    Thanks

  • OkAY!

I've already done setting blog page and creating side bar, see screenshot for the categories sidebar I have created: https://www.screencast.com/t/JTNnhOCO

The Food there is a category. But when I go to this page, Food categories pages, still sidebar does not show: https://www.screencast.com/t/6dQ9ambO7BU

I didn't understand your last sentence, where do I see these options, in the page? post? I saw them only on the Muffin Builder Options under Sidebars -> General. Please be more specific as your builder is rather confusing than the others.
  • What does this mean:

Appears only when you select sidebar for Blog. Which Blog is that referring???
  • By blog I mean the main blog page.
Please again follow the instructions I wrote, check if the single-post in theme options>sidebars is set, if it is set to meta you have to set it individually for each post.
  • I have fixed my issue without following your steps. The theme is really confusing with the name scheming.

Hi joeszef , may I know how did you resolve the issue?

I am facing the same issue as well when I'm using beTheme - Lifestyle theme.

I imported the Lifestyle theme and the sidebar was working fine on categories page. I could even remove some unwanted widgets in Blog and it was reflected fine.

However, after I tried to insert a text widget that has Facebook Step 3 code from here > https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/page-plugin, the sidebar disappears. The Step 2 SDK code was inserted to beTheme custom JS.

Now, even after I've cleared all custom JS and removed text widget, the sidebar would not appear again on categories page. Muffin Support , please help! Thanks.

  • Hi,
If you want the category to have diffrent widgets you have to put them in the category sidebar in appereance>widgets
I hope this is what you are looking for.
    thanks

Hi, I do not want to have different widgets in different category. I want all categories to have the same sidebar. All I changed was only "Blog" sidebar in Appearance > Widget.
It could have been a bug. I have shown the steps to replicate the situationn from message above. Please help to investigate. Thanks.
  • It is because you have not set the main blog page.
Go to appereance>reading and set the posts page to the main blog page.
You cannot edit or add/remove items from the blog page or the categories page They are created automatically by wordpress.
    thanks

Were you talking about Settings > Reading?
I only have these two options in the drop down list which these two are "Pages", not "Categories" (Posts).http://imgur.com/a/j7Q05

"You cannot edit or add/remove items from the blog page or the categories page They are created automatically by wordpress."
The "Items" you mentioned, did you mean "widgets"? Please note that the custom sidebar is created by Theme Option. http://imgur.com/a/1B3qD

As mentioned, the Sidebar for Categories disappeared after I inserted a facebook script into the Blog sidebar in widget setting. The Sidebar for Categories still remained disappeared even after I have removed the facebook script. Kindly advise please. Thanks.
  • THe drop down list is not options, but the pages on your website. You have to set a default BLOG page as the posts page. Then wordpress will automatically put the blog content on that page.

I did not mean widgets, the problem is that you do not make pages and insert shortcodes/items to make blog or categories, you have to set the blog page in settings>reading and then open the category pages. Then the sidebar will work properly.

The facebook script you are putting in your code is not supported by us, it was not tested and we cannot be responsible for the code we did not test.

  • Hi,

Just did what you have told.

    3) http://imgur.com/qADWUjU

The sidebar is still not appearing on the newly created page. Kindly help please.

The Blog page that is newly set up through Settings > Reading though, is not exactly same as Menu's Category as the Blog page can't choose which posts category to display.

As for facebook script which I removed, by right it should not have caused any side-effect.
    Thanks.
  • Have you set the layout for the sidebar to be left or right?
The blog page should be blank, no text or items inserted. It wil be generated by wordpress.
  • Thank you very much for your help. Finally it works!
