Need a different hover effect on the portfolio image

Check this page for reference so that I am clear:
This page has a portfolio with Exposure setting and other details hidden through CSS. Now, when I hover on the image, there is a dark overlay on the image. I am looking to do two separate things here:
1. I am trying to have the dark overlay as the initial look of the portfolio image. When I hover, then the image should, sort of 'reveal' itself with original colors.
2. Other way I am trying to show the portfolio, is by showing the original image on loan (as now) and then brightening on hover. Somehow to highlight the image in a way.
Can you please help me implement both this cases so I can see?

What you ask for, requires files customization what in reference to Item Support Policy is not allowed. So if you want to modify files and don't know how, you should contact with your web developer. Item Policy clearly says:
