how to make an image fit into a set size

Hello, im trying to make an imge fit into a custom size in all of my "image" section using the muffing builder, for example I have a 1000x500px image that I need to fit (without streaching, just center) into a 500x500px space, I tried this: http://guanabarna.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Captura-de-pantalla-2017-05-25-a-las-2.16.23-PM.png  but it didnt worked... 

could you please help?

The two images have different sizes and I need them to be placed over a squared frame of 400x400px

They should be framed (center zoomed) on a same sized square instead of resizing the original image format.

The best way to do this is to crop the images to the same size on your computer and then upload them, you cannot have images with diffrent proportions fit the same frame.

ok but there isnt a way of forcing an image to zoom in until it fills a frame size? So I dont have to crop it every time since this would be a standard section of a blog

Yes, for the blog,shop&portfolio there is a way:
To change the size of the images on portfolio/blog/shop please navigate to theme options>blog,portfolio&shop>featured image
There set the desired image size. Remember to read the notice at the bottom of the page regarding thumbnail regeneration.
