Next & Previous Related Posts

We are using the portfolio section to display different projects we've done over the years.  It seems like the "next" & "previous" links are going to projects that related by creation date. Are we able to change that so they link to related posts by categories?  I went into the theme options and said for them to navigate by category but that didn't seem to work.

    Sorry but this function cannot be changed, it only goes by date.

    Is there any type of custom work we can do to change that?

    What you ask for, requires files customization what in reference to Item Support Policy is not allowed. So if you want to modify files and don't know how, you should contact with your web developer. Item Policy clearly says:
