How to get menu and content to be not quite full width

This one is kind of important, so if you would take some time to help, it would be REALLY appreciated!

And I would like my header and my content to be less large, just like in this demo: http://themes.muffingroup.com/be/plumber/
I tried, in General to click on 960 grid, but nothing happenned. Could you please help me out?

to decrease this spacing between header and the content, please activate "Header | Minimalist" option under Theme options > Header & Subheader > Header section.
