Footer full width despite 960 grid

Is it possible to add a code to make the footer full width/fullscreen despite that i got boxed site with 960grid?
Also I have a problem with some padding - I keep having white space / string under the footer and at the top I have some padding / string too :S This is very confusing, so please help:)

if you will send us url to site where you want to do this, we'll have a look on it. Will be great if you can send us image as well because above one does not work.
