I noticed that BeTheme is generating the following viewport meta tag:

Google Lighthouse flags maximum-scale=1 as an accessibility issue because it prevents users from zooming the page.

I checked BeTheme → Theme Options → Responsive, but I could not find a setting to remove or change this value.

• Is there a built-in BeTheme option to remove maximum-scale=1?
• If not, what is the recommended way to modify the viewport meta tag without editing the parent theme files?

I’m using the Slides module to display a gallery. The problem is that my images are generally in different sizes and aspect ratios, so parts of the images are being cropped and are not fully visible.

Is there a setting in the Slides module that would allow the entire image to be displayed while keeping its original aspect ratio, instead of cropping it to fill the slide area?

Ideally, I would like the images to fit inside the available slide area without being stretched or distorted.

Could you please advise what setting or CSS should be used for this?

Since the BeTheme update to version 28.5.8, the search icon has disappeared from the header (top right bar). The website https://arbeitgeber.de uses a child theme with extensive customizations. I selected the search icon in the Theme Options, but it isn’t displayed. As soon as I switch from the child theme to the original BeTheme, the search function appears. I temporarily disabled the customized search in the child theme’s styles (frontend.css), but that didn’t help. The WPML language switcher and the action button are working perfectly after the update.

What can I do? Where might the problem be?

SUMMARY

Version 28.5.3 fixed the laptop and tablet section-side-padding blocks in style.php — the media queries had been invalid, written as max-width 1440 and max-width 959 with the px unit missing — and at the same time changed the emission gate from a truthiness test to a "greater than or equal to zero" comparison, presumably so that an explicit 0 would be honored.

The side effect is that the gate now fires when the field was never filled in. mfn_opts_get returns its default, null, for an unset key, and in PHP a null compared as greater than or equal to zero evaluates to true. So the blocks emit ".section_wrapper { padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px }" between 960 and 1440 pixels and between 768 and 959 pixels on every site where the laptop and tablet values were left empty. The gate can no longer tell "the user chose 0" from "the user never touched this field".

In the current 28.5.7 package these are style.php lines 61 and 69, unchanged since 28.5.3.

A note on presentation: this site's firewall rejects both posts and uploads that contain PHP code, which is why the template code is described in prose here rather than quoted. The exact excerpts with line numbers are ready, and I am happy to send them by whatever channel suits you.

IMPACT

On a site with a non-zero desktop "Section side padding" and the laptop and tablet fields left empty, the desktop rule (emitted from 768 pixels upward) used to apply at all widths of 768 and above — in 28.5.2 the laptop and tablet blocks were dead CSS because of the missing px unit, so they never interfered. After updating, the now-valid laptop and tablet blocks override the desktop padding with 0 across 768 to 1440 pixels. Section side padding silently disappears on tablet and laptop viewports, with no settings change by the site owner.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. In Theme Options, set the desktop "Section side padding" to a non-zero value, for example 30px. Leave the laptop and tablet responsive values empty, never filled.

2. On 28.5.2, view a page at a viewport width between 768 and 1440 pixels. The section wrapper has 30px of side padding, because the desktop rule applies and the laptop and tablet blocks are inert.

3. Update to 28.5.3 or later and reload at the same viewport.

EXPECTED: unset laptop and tablet values inherit the desktop padding, which was the previous effective behavior, while an explicit 0 in those fields overrides it — the apparent intent of the 28.5.3 change.

ACTUAL: the section wrapper side padding becomes 0 between 768 and 1440 pixels. The unset state is treated as an explicit 0.

ONE THING WORTH CHECKING ON YOUR SIDE

MFN_Options::get (options.php, line 620) normalizes an empty saved value back to the same default, returning it whenever the stored value is empty and is not the string "0". So "never saved the options page" and "saved with the field blank" both reach the gate as null, and both emit. There is no blank-versus-unset divergence to work around; the gate simply cannot distinguish any of those states from an explicit 0.

SUGGESTED FIX

Gate on presence rather than on a numeric comparison, so an explicit 0 still emits but an unset or blank value does not: read the option into a variable, then test that its string cast is not empty. Casting null or false to string yields an empty string, so unset and blank behave identically, while the string "0" passes and is emitted. The same change applies to the tablet key. The exact two lines are in the attached file.

RELATED INCONSISTENCY

The desktop block eight lines above, at style.php line 53, still uses the older truthiness gate, so an explicit desktop 0 still cannot emit. If the intent of the 28.5.3 change was to honor an explicit 0, the same presence gate would apply there too.

ENVIRONMENT

Introduced in BeTheme 28.5.3, verified by comparing the 28.5.2 and 28.5.3 packages, and still present unchanged in 28.5.7 — re-verified against the 28.5.7 package, where the two gates are byte-identical at style.php lines 61 and 69. The null comparison behavior is identical on PHP 7 and PHP 8.

SUMMARY

The 28.5.5 changelog entry "Theme Options - Revisions - Restore revision - Stripping escaped backslashes" added one line to MFN_Options::_validate_options() in muffin-options/options.php. In the current 28.5.7 package that is line 1129.

The two lines immediately above it take the stored revision — a base64-encoded, serialized copy of the options blob — and turn it back into an array. The new line then passes that array through array_map, with stripslashes as the callback.

That is the defect. array_map applies the callback to each top-level element, but the options blob is not flat: a large share of its keys hold arrays, because that is how several of the theme's own field types store their values. stripslashes requires a string, so on PHP 8 the first array-valued key raises an uncaught TypeError and the request ends in a critical error. The revision is never restored.

You may also want to know that the firewall is currently blocking bug reports about your own source.

WHY THIS IS NOT SITE-SPECIFIC

The array-valued keys are contributed by the theme's own field types, not by anything unusual in my configuration. Counting the field definitions in muffin-options/theme-options.php: color_multi about 40, typography about 36, checkbox about 34, gradient about 8, dimensions about 5, box_shadow about 4. On the options blob of an ordinary configured install I counted 803 top-level keys, of which 126 were arrays. Any site that has ever saved Theme Options will have them, so I would expect every installation to reproduce this.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. On 28.5.5 or later, open Theme Options and click "Save revision" (or use any site that already has entries in Backup History).

2. Go to Theme Options > Backup History and click "Restore" on any revision.

3. The request ends in "There has been a critical error on this website." The PHP error log records an uncaught TypeError from stripslashes, reporting that argument 1 must be of type string and an array was given, at muffin-options/options.php line 1129.

EXPECTED: the selected revision is restored.

ACTUAL: fatal error, nothing restored. Theme Options are left unchanged — the exception is raised inside the sanitize callback that WordPress runs within update_option before the database write, so nothing is persisted and no data is lost. But the feature is unusable.

A SECOND, EASILY MISSED EFFECT

The failing click is not free. In muffin-options/js/options.js, revisions.restore() saves a fresh "backup" revision before it submits the restore form, guarded so that it only does so when the revision being restored is not itself a "backup" entry. set_revision() keeps a five-slot ring per revision type (options.php line 140) and evicts the oldest when full.

So a failed Restore launched from the "Update:" or "Revision:" list consumes one "Backup:" slot and delivers nothing. A Restore launched from the "Backup:" list skips the pre-write, per that guard. On a site already at the cap, a few retries — which the critical-error page naturally invites — will roll the "Backup:" ring forward to copies of the current state. The "Update:" and "Revision:" lists are separate rings and are unaffected.

To be clear, the pre-write itself is long-standing and correct behavior. It only becomes costly because the restore that follows it now always fails.

SUGGESTED FIX

Use WordPress's own recursive helper, which handles nested arrays:

  stripslashes_deep

applied to the same variable, in place of the array_map line. That preserves the intent of the 28.5.5 change — revisions are stored from a slashed request context, so stripping is correct — without assuming the structure is flat.

If array_map is preferred, the callback needs a type check so non-strings pass through untouched. That avoids the fatal, but it still strips only the top level, so nested string values inside the typography and dimensions arrays would keep their slashes. The recursive helper is the closer match to the stated goal. Both forms are written out in the attached file.

ENVIRONMENT

Introduced in 28.5.5; verified byte-identical and still present in 28.5.6 and 28.5.7 (checked against the 28.5.7 package, options.php line 1129). Behavior above is PHP 8. On PHP 7, stripslashes with an array argument raises a warning and returns null rather than throwing, which would silently blank the restored value instead of erroring — arguably a worse outcome than the fatal.

I need to hide a section in the footer of my website (Footer 3). I've tried deleting the text and hiding the block, but neither works. After refreshing the page, I always get the message: “An error has occurred. The response is not a valid JSON response.” What can I do?

I want another section with text to open on this page, but only when I click the button. How do I do that?

I’m having an issue with the mobile side menu on my website.

On mobile, there are very large vertical gaps between the different sections of the menu. For example, there is a large empty space between:

• the logo and the main menu
• the main menu and the phone/contact section
• the phone section and the “Book now” button

I have not added any custom spacing or margins between these elements, so it seems that the spacing is coming from the BeTheme mobile menu layout itself.

I have also tried adjusting margins, padding and justify-content with custom CSS, but it did not solve the issue.

Could you tell me where these vertical gaps are controlled and how I can reduce them on mobile only?

I recreated the text/section, and everything looks correct in the back-end editor, with no bold formatting applied.

However, when I check the page on the front end, that part of the text appears bold again.

I’m using BeTheme with alternating posts in a Looped Items Slider, and I have two related layout issues.

The first issue is with the excerpt/text length. Some posts have longer text than others, which makes certain items taller and creates large empty gaps between the alternating posts, especially on mobile.

I would like all post items to have a consistent height and spacing, ideally by limiting the excerpt to the same number of lines, for example 4–5 lines.

I have already tried CSS using line-clamp, height: auto, min-height: 0, and different selectors for the slider and its items, but none of them had any effect.

The second issue is with the featured images. Some images are vertical/portrait and others are horizontal/landscape. I would like the layout to remain consistent regardless of the original image dimensions.

Ideally:

• all image areas should have the same dimensions or aspect ratio;
• portrait and landscape images should not change the height of the post item;
• images should keep their original proportions;
• images can be cropped automatically if needed, for example using object-fit: cover, but they should not be stretched or distorted;
• the alternating layout and spacing should remain consistent on both desktop and mobile.

Could you please advise what is the correct way to achieve this in the Looped Items Slider?

Is there a built-in BeTheme setting for limiting excerpt length and normalizing image sizes, or could you provide the correct CSS/selectors for this layout?

1) What is the correct way to translate theme elements that are not available in String Translation and are also not detected by the WPML Translation Editor? For example, this applies to the placeholders, header elements and shop filter titles marked in the attached screenshot. Do I need to change these texts separately for each language in the theme settings?

2) Sometimes the CSS styles are not copied correctly to one of the language versions. Updating both the original page and its translation does not restore the missing styles. What is the recommended way to fix this situation?

In Theme Options -> Templates, the checkboxes to (de)select all templates and the individual checkboxes do not work (they cannot be checked).

I personally don't find it annoying and doesn't cause major issues, but it's a small bug I noticed.

The problem is that using this effect in the footer doesn't work for the columns.

I’m building a store based on the Default Store 2 demo. Unfortunately, we have deleted or modified some of the original templates:

• Bethemestore2-product-template
• Bethemestore2-shop-template
• bethemestore2-header-template

I would like to use these templates again.

Is there any way to access or restore only these specific templates without importing the entire Default Store 2 demo again?

I also have a second license, so I tried installing the demo on another test website and exporting the templates from there, but the export field appears to be empty.

Is there a simple way to do this?

Alternatively, could you please provide exported BeBuilder JSON files for these three templates, ready to import or paste?
