Creative header (left) background won't change in BeHandyman demo site

There's a default background image (greenish) behind the header. I want to just get rid of this and have a color, but I can't find where to get rid of it. 

Under theme options>header, I've tried changing the background image, but this just changes it for the top portion.

I finally just deleted the current background image from my media library in order to get it to go away.

When I change the color for "header" it doesn't even apply to the header, it applies to the top section on the homepage.

What am I missing??

I simply imported it and tried to change the background image on the header-- I can't find where to do it, so the only way I've figured out is by just deleting the image from my Media.

but then when I try to place an image, it won't cover the full area of the "creative header".

Also, you can see in that image that there's an empty section at the top of each page taking the "header color" -- how do I get rid of this? I don't see it listed in Muffin Builder

What about the last question -- you can see in the image that there's an empty section at the top of each page taking the "header color" (light blue) -- how do I get rid of this? I don't see it listed in Muffin Builder.
