I just found out that I need to buy a licence to the Visual Composer... was this not included in my original purchase of the BeTheme???? What was the point, I was under the influence that I had a complete product

purchase codes (license keys) are not included for plugins which are bundled into theme. It’s because of Themeforest license & agreements. This applies to all themes of course. However, there is no need to use this code because the plugins are fully functional without it. If you want, you can read more details about this on Envato forum:

P.S. We do not understand what for you want to buy a license for that plugin? Plugin is already included into theme so we do not understand your question.
