Header Image size?

What is the proper size for the header image in the blogger 2 template. On a individual page you can add a header image. I've tried for hours to have the header image show properly and it never displays right. What is the proper size?

for Be|Blogger2 main image which is under header, we used the image which is 1200 x 480px
