Revolution Slider Performance

Since the latest theme update we are now seeing 6 second load times on our homepage slider (previously much much faster).  Was hoping to roll back to the previous version of rev slider but the theme is blocking us from activating it and forces the upgrade..   Has this issue been reported?  Any advice for working around it?
