Can I remove the featured image from the single post page?
I set the featured images for posts to be used in the 'recent post' widget etc.
Can I remove the image from the single post page (i.e. the blog post itself)?

yes, it is possible of course. You can remove featured images from single post pages with an extra css:
.single-post .single-photo-wrapper.image { display: none !important; }
