Custom CSS not working

I'm trying to change the font colour are a certain area.
I'm using the muffin builder and a Column.
down the bottom is has
Custom | Class and Custom | .stlye.
I've tried both and neither are working.
the code i'm adding to the inline style is color: #fff;
and when this didn't work I added css code to the custom css area and i added
.homef1 { color:#fff; }
I did of course add the homef1 code to the custom class area. I've saved the page many times and also cleared the cache... but nothing it working.
Am i missing something here ? This sholdn't be that diffuclut to change ......
