Transparency Hex-Codes dosnt work correctly?

I hardly tried to make some backgroundcolors half-transparent, but it dosnt seem to work how I want it to:
With grey, it works, when I type in #80808080, but with all the other colours it turns into other colours ( (for example with black: #80000000 it turns into something blueish?)
So my question is: what are the hex-codes for transparency? I would only need black or white with transparency actually...

if you want to set transparent backgrounds, you should use RGBA and not HEX (btw HEX colors are 6 digits and not 8). For more details about RGBA, please visit http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_colors_legal.asp
thx, worked. I didnt tought about that cause there's written use names or hex codes for the background colours...
