I'd like my blog excerpt to feature the photo on the top. Can I do this using the news blog excerpt using the code in a column i.e. [blog_news title="" style="photo"
count="5" category="NEWS" category_multi=""
excerpt="1"
link="http://lca.search-for.me.uk/newsandevents/"
link_title="MORE NEWS & EVENTS>"] ?

I can do this using the blog (see http://lca.search-for.me.uk/), but can you tell me how to add a Read More link at the bottom as in the blog-news above ? (I tried adding a Read More tag to the post but that doesn't work)

Thanks for that. I used the code as you suggested which should have included a Read More link:

[blog count="1" style="photo" columns="1" category="" category_multi=""NEWS,EVENTS" exclude_id="" more="1" filters="0" pagination="0" load_more="" greyscale="0" margin=""]

However it doesn't have the Read More bottom right, nor for that matter the love icon and count bottom left ?

Sorry, I misunderstood you. This is not doable, the only way you can do this is by creating a column under the blog and pasting a button there. More information about the button item HERE

Blog and blog_news shortcodes generate love elements. When you use this shortcode you don't have to add any love elements. If you want to add a love element anywhere on the page by itself you cannot do this without direct code changes. This is not doable with the theme options.
