Excessive Blog Page Numbers

I have several blog posts and only four posts are being displayed on the main Blog page entitled "News". The page layout currently shows two rows of two columns. I am interested in increasing the number of rows. Is that possible? 

The page numbers shown underneath the last row of blog posts currently shows 190 pages. We are wanting to reduce that area so that it does not take up so much space. Can you help?
