Featured Posts possible?

I'm playing around with the blog post elements (these loop elements which display the recents posts)...How can I make post sticky? So that an post is always shown first, even if it's older than others.
Is there build in function for this?
Or do I have to create a category "featured"? ...but how do I display this "featured -cateogry" first in the loop, AND all others behind?

there is an option like this, it lets the post to be sticky. It is only available on the quick post edit, not on the post page.
