Can't save footer.php after editing

When trying to save the footer.php after editing I am just being sent to a 404 page. Is it a fix for this problem?

Footer.php? How you editing this file? Within FTP or how?

I am editing the file from inside Wordpress using the built-in editor under Appearance.

So this is wordpress feature and if you got any problems with this section, means that something is wrong with your wordpress installation. BTW if you change any files, we recommend to do this within FTP as this is much safer solution.
