highiting text on a blog teaser column (css)

Hi, I have tried a variety of different html / css sheet snippets to highlight the text that can be seen on the teasers for blog articles.

i have a bg picture, and the text can only be clearly read if it is highlighted now (with eg white color).

i have tried a few different versions from that discussion https://forum.muffingroup.com/betheme/discussion/comment/207746#Comment_207746, but nothing worked for the "blog" css class field.

also i have tried things like

.highlightme { background-color:#ffffff; }

or eg. 

mark{
 background-color:#ffffff;
}
