Can't remove section below the header slider

This big black section that says HOME on it just appeared one day and now I can't get rid of it. It doesn't seem to be a main page section but somehow attached to/below the Header/Slider. There's pics for you to see what I mean, being that it's hard to explain. I've tried everything and it won't go away.

    Ok, it seems I finally figured it out, by checking the hide 'Page Title' and 'Subheader' check boxes it went away. Don't remember ever unchecking these being that this section was never there before, but happy that it's gone. Thx
