Show number of portfolio items in category

Is it somehow possible to show the number of portfolio items there are in a portfolio category?

I have created a page where I show links to all portfolio categories through an icon and name underneath but I would like to show the number of items in them after the name, for example:

Name of portfolio category A (5)

Name of portfolio category B (0)

Name of portfolio category C (12)

Unfortunately, we do not have such a feature in our theme.

Thanks for replying, already figured that out :-)

Sent it as suggestion, kind of missing imo, considering wordpress does have this functionality (at least with 'normal' categories).
