Global Style – Substyles

Hi, global styles is a great timesaver. I would need more flexibility.

Example: I create a global style for an element used 10 times and I have some similar elements that are based on the global style, but with some small differences to the first style for other 8 times. And I'd like to save them too as a new global style. This seems not possible at the moment. If I click on the X of the global style it removes it completely. Would be fine to 1. disconnet to global style without losing settings and/or 2. 'save as' new global style and/or 3. (much more futuristic but maybe too sophisticated) have parent and child settings.

thank you

  • Hi,

You can always duplicate your current global style and create a second with necessary changes:

Anyway, you can leave your suggestion on the following topic:

    We will also consider it.

  • Hi, thank you, with the new theme update I can see the icon to create substyles.

But I was wondering about not overwriting settings when choosing a global style, let me explain:

I have some , maybe wrong or old settings on some pages. Now I created a global style and want to assign that global style to all wraps/sections I need to pages already created. I can see that the section is using own settings when they are white and the global ones when they are purple. But for the workflow it would be more fine when assigning the global style to choose: 1. overwrite once all 'old' settings or 2. use new settings only on empty spaces (as you have it now). The first possibility is more like using global classes, so how could I do that?

  • Before assigning global style, you can right-click on the element/wrap/section, choose to reset styles, and assign the global styles.

We already considered the features you mentioned in your last message, but during tests, we found them rather problematic than helpful. That is why they are not present, and we will not add them.

  • why problematic?

  • Because of the technical and usability point of view.

The way it is designed is the most optimal solution we found without breaking this feature.

  • Hi, so I tried to reset styles, but this does not reset all, it does not reset dimensions, height, and maybe others. So I still need to check all settings if they are changed or not, the old way using classes was more secure.

And in some cases the global style was not available, even after saving page, need to exit and reenter, save multiple times and than I could use it, i do not use caching at the moment.

  • 1) Custom height and width should indeed be set to default with styles reset. I have passed it on to the dev team and we will correct that. If you notice anything else, please let me know.

    2) Can you provide more details when this issue happens, please?

I need to replicate this to know what the problem could be.

    Best regards
