Re-licence a theme previusly installed
Good morning,
We are currently experiencing an issue with our Betheme installation.
The template was originally installed by a graphic design company with whom we no longer have contact. They supposedly used an old license. The website is fully built and operational, and in the top corner it shows "REGISTERED", but the license number is entirely hidden with asterisks (see attached image). When we try to de-register the theme, nothing happens. Additionally, when attempting to update the API, it fails to load the package (see attachment).
The fact is that we have purchased a new license, which we would like to apply to this template. However, we cannot find any way to do this — and ideally, we would also like to upgrade the theme in the process.
How can we re-license the template without losing the current configuration or design? I can provide you with the new license, which is valid until July.
We urgently need a solution, as this is a production website with a significant number of visits from our members.
Thank you very much in advance.
Kind regards,

Hi,
If you see only asterisks in the license field, it means that the company that created your website used a theme package from an illegal source.
The license field should look like this:
So the first two parts should be visible.
That is the reason why you cannot deregister or update the theme.
We do not know what modifications could be made to such a package, so we cannot guarantee that the steps I provide next will work. Therefore, I suggest creating a backup with the Duplicator plugin.

When you prepare a backup, download an official theme package from ThemeForest, and replace the existing one on your website. After that, register your license key, and check if everything works properly.

Thank you for your fast answer
I have already downloaded the theme correctly. Should I simply replace the
wp-content/themes/betheme
andbetheme-child
folders? Is it advisable to delete them first and then copy the new ones?

Replacing them by installing through WP Panel -> Appearance -> Themes should do the job.
However, if you have a child theme, and you have some modifications made in it, I suggest creating a backup of this folder as well, as after installing a new package, it will wipe out changes, and you can copy these changes from a backup to a freshly installed one.
