breadcrumbs not showing entire path of submenus

The breadcrumbs only show Home >current page, not the entire path
here's an example of my site outline:
1. home
2. about
a. mission
b. history
c. team
3. contact

When on About page, breadcrumbs show: Home > About
When on mission page, breadcrumbs show: Home > Mission, but should show: Home > About > Mission
I want breadcrumbs to show entire path.  what am I doing wrong?  how do I fix?

I have breadcrumbs on and am using "Title & Breadcrumbs centered"  My 1 added plugin is deactivated.

    Just an added note: Main menus at the top appear correctly.  Home, About & Contact all appear in main menu, and Mission, History & Team appear as submenu items under About.  So that's all good, just the breadcrumbs are not right when I'm on a submenu page

    ah, I figured it out.  have to set a parent page under "Page Attributes"
