I want to highlight a single menu item,, as in attached image. [ with rounded corners..]

Hello,
all the styles for active menu items are in theme options>menu.
Not all styles work on all header styles.

Hi,

I want to give a background colour to "DEMO" TAB, as in the image attached..

Please Note: "demo tab" is not active but still i want to give it a bold background colour..

I managed to get the background done,, BUT I am struggling with the padding on the sides,, like in the width,,

You will figure out once you see the website.

I would like to insert a background image, if thats possible

Add !important to the padding, try this:
padding: 0px 10px !important;
