Is there a way to show portfolio category in the permalink?

For example instead of showing "/portfolio-item/my-testing-work" show "/portfolio-item/academic/my-testing-work" in which "academic" is the category of the item.

    Sadly, it will not be possible.
    You cannot show a category name in the url.

    I am ok to code it myself, but don't wanna break the theme update cycle. Can you please point me in to the right direction so I can take it from there? I am not a wordpress developer that's the reason I am asking for help. I can also send you the code to add to the theme when I am done with it.

    We do not provide help with the theme files customizations, all that we help with is understanding how the theme works, fixing theme bugs and minor css tweaks.

    Surely, you have to use the Child Theme to prevent losing modifications while updating the theme ;)
