Background Colours In Sections Affecting Other Sections

When I set a background colour to a section subsequent sections on the page are affected. There are also 2 background colour button on the same line that I can set the colour on. Wondering why that might be. I have had to change all background colours to white because it just wont accept colour.

Running 20.9.5.5 on Wp 5.5

I believe I tried it on every page with the same result but the first one is the home page. I have removed all coloured backgrounds as a result.

Can you update your theme and wp to the latest version?

Actual one is kinda old.

When I update the theme using the linked method do I need to do anything regarding my child theme? Will I have any issues with plugins etc. Should I backup everything first?

Your child theme won't be touched, it only affect the parent theme.

If you are worried about it, please make a backup with this plugin:

Also, please switch your theme to parent, and check, if the background colors are doubled.

I switched my theme to parent and the background colours were not doubled. I switched it back to the child and it was fixed. It doesn't make sense to me but that seemed to have worked...

When I clicked update to the theme I got a critical error on my website

I managed to restore it to an older version but would like to update the theme. Do you have an idea why I would get a critical error when updating? Also, I need to make the site accessible. This is the checker it needs to pass. Does the updated theme address any accessibility issues?

Do you update your theme while parent theme is turned on?

Is your PHP version 7 or higher?

Also, is your WP up to date?

Remember, that all of your plugins should be disabled when you are trying to update anything.

I updated the theme while the child theme was on

Wordpress is 5.5

PHP is 5.6

Can you please supply me some instructions on the best way/order to update. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks. I switched to a staging site so as not to troubleshoot on the live site. I disabled all plugins and updated PHP. WP is 5.5. When I updated BeTheme through the interface following the instructions the site went completely blank.

Can you switch to the parent theme? It looks like the problem could be related to the modifications that you made earlier.

Also, please contact your hosting provider to update your php to version 7 or higher, because the php 5.6 is kinda outdated nowadays.

The staging site had an updated version of php. I've updated the live site's php as well. I activated the parent theme and the site is functioning. Is there a way to get it to work with the child theme?

Well, you have to check what changes were made, also you can enable the wp_debug mode and check, where the error appear.

The thing is I never changed anything on the child theme. Just updated the theme. And the child things works fine on the live site with the older theme.

Hey,

please download the newest theme with the child theme from themeforest and use FTP to swap the "functions.php" file in the child theme. Child themes somethimes also need modifitaction, this is not set in stone. Btw. if you have a child theme and you do nothing to it, why do you have it?

What I meant is I have not updated anything on the child theme that could have cause an error. I managed to get the site to work. I needed to update some code in the child theme. For some reason, however, the banner isn't working anymore.

This is due to Envato new security changes which we have to follow. From now on you cannot use HTML markup in most of Theme options. Fields that previously accepted HTML now only accept plain text.
Only basic HTML tags like strong and u are working. Read more about the changes here:

Also, we strongly suggest to not to use Child Theme if you did not change anything in the code
