Open links and files in new tab

Hi,

I'm developing the site test.stjohnregional.org.
I have links and files (pdfs) in the menu such as Quicklinks->Lunch Menu (pdf) or Quicklinks->Bishop Brady High School (external site) that open in the same window/tab and I want them to open in a different window/tab. Other wordpress sites I've done this is a checkbox when I manage the menus in the Menu section but it is not here. What should I do/where do I go to change this? I did search results in the forums and found nothing. Also the documentation has something close to it for articles in the muffin editor but it doesn't address or apply to menu links to my knowledge. Thank you!

Thanks!
Best,
Dan

  • Hi Dan,

if an option is missing under Menu section, we suggest to deactivate Mega Menu under Theme options > Global > Advanced section and check if this would help.

    Thanks!
  • Hi,
I disabled Mega Menu but that did not change anything. The option still isn't showing up when I go back to menu.

    Best,
    Dan
  • Ok, if this didn't helped, please switch to default WP theme and check if that option works when default theme is active or it doesn't.
  • I just found the solution after searching the Wordpress forums. It's a setting. For the forum's reference this is what needs to be done if you don't see the open link in new tab check box.

Go to Appearance > Menus, click the Screen Options tab in the upper right, and check the box next to Link Target.

Each of your menu items will now show a checkbox to open the link in a new tab/window. Check those boxes and resave your menu.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Great, glad to see you found it. Just as we thought, this wasn't related with theme.
  • It's always good to know "it's not me....it's you" haha
  • It's kind of "UFF, thanks god we didn't done anything wrong" :D We don't like doing mistakes but we are just people what means we do mistakes sometimes like anyone else :)
