  Hi,

  We think that you created a item or placed a shortcode twice. Please edit the page, and remove any content you have added. The blog page should not be edited.

  I read in another discussion that those pages are automatically generated--they're not created by me, the user--they're created by WordPress (somewhere in the PHP coding). I may be wrong, but it seems all of those auto generated pages are showing the initial home page blog above the desired author, tag, category information.

  the first thing you should do is create Blog page properly. It is very important as all pages like Author, category, tags, etc are closely related with the Blog page and if it's not set properly, you might have a problem with all other pages.
