Change betheme folder name

Hello,

i installed betheme and betheme child. For security purpose i would like to change the name of "betheme" folder. How can i do this in order to connect this new folder to the child?

Hi,

both themes, must have the same folder name. So if your new name will be xxx then child theme should be xxx-child. Please also notice, that after you change theme name, you will lose menu or widgets settings because this will be completely new theme for WordPress.

thanks for your reply. I try but when i change both folders names i have an error, child theme cannot find father theme. I use xxx and xxx-child. I should modify something else?

Sorry but we forgot about one thing. Under style.css file inside child theme folder, you must change template name as well.

Done. But now when i try to activate child theme i have "500 Server Error"

This error is related with server settings. Please try to go back to original theme names and check if on original it works fine or you also get the same error.

But did you switched to default wp theme before you made this change? Because first, you must switch to default theme and then do this changes. You are probably doing this on activated theme and that's why you got Internal Server Error.

Yes first i switched to t then i activate betheme (with changed folders names and child style.css) but i have 500

This is really unbelievable. We did it the same 3 times today and all works fine. You must did something wrong for sure. Please send us dashboard access privately and we'll check what you did wrong.

Hello!

I have a similar problem but with WordPress MULTISITE.
I few times I installed a variety of templates and I created theme-child and was ok.

1. I installed Betheme and Betheme-child
2. I changed name Betheme-child for example My-theme and I changed style.css
/*
Theme Name:     My-theme
Theme URI:
Author:
Author URI:
Description:
Template:    betheme
Version:
*/
And still see in browser console in section <head> PATH with ...\theme\betheme\...
in place of ...\theme\my-theme\...
Only css url have correct PATH.

The files in the multisite are shared, the styles are drawn from one file, where the theme options are diffrent. You do not need to install a child thee for every multisite.

If I use only one site path is correct but multisier don't

Yes, this is normal. All child themes get these files from the main theme. You would need to create a new file in the child theme and edit it there, with the same path. Then the child theme will read from it and not from the main theme.
