Adding Header.php and footer.php in child theme

How do i add Header.php and footer.php in child theme. Since i have added some changes on Header.php and footer.php. I am afraid to lose my changes during theme update. Should just copy-paste the header.php and footer.php into child theme and make my changes there ?

Yes, you only need to copy and paste the files to the child theme. Remember to save the directory path like in the parent theme.

If the file is in css/style.css the child theme should also have a css/style.css path.

Im new to these things. Can you Elaborate the process of adding it to child theme.

Well, you simply install the child theme and activate it, then work on it.
