Create Custom Post Type and Custom Page Template
  • I am shocked that nothing came up when I search for 'css' in the search box but I guess I will be the first….

I would like to create a Custom Post Type and Page Template for my WP blog.

NOTE: I am comfortable with hardcoding.

I would like to create a standard layout that I can use for all my blog posts and article pages.  The layout will have the following attributes:

    1. Disabled: Show the Title on subpages

    2. Enabled: "Get in touch" button

    3. Enabled: Breadcrumbs  -  Home > Category > Post Title

    4. Proper semantic markup… <h1> <h2> <h3>

I was able to get close enough to show you an example:

Unfortunately, please take note of a few things:

In order to show the GIT button, I had to enable 'Title on subpages'.  I then deleted the page title so that no title would display.  This caused a problem for my breadcrumbs.  Also, notice how the bottom of the GIT is cut off.

I then inserted the Page Title into the actual text of the body.  To get the formatting correct, I had to change the semantic markup to: <h3> <h4> and <h5>.  I cannot use <h1,h2,h3> because they are styled differently... and if I re-style these for the blog pages under Theme Options, the entire website gets affected, including the homepage.

To summarize, I am hoping someone can provide assistance with the following questions:

    1. How do I create a Custom Post Type and Page Template so that the title is NOT displayed and the GIT & breadcrumbs are displayed?

    2. In that Custom Post Type and Page Template, I want to make sure the semantic markup on the article is:  <h1> <h2> <h3>

Finally, I am comfortable hardcoding but I hope that you can provide some assistance and direction.
