Custom Social Icons
  • I'd like to add icons/links to Social icons for Yelp, and a few others. So far, I've made a limuso-child theme and manually added this to header.php:

    <li class="yelp"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/my-clients-yelp-link" title="Yelp">Y</a></li>

    It works, i.e. it shows up in the header and goes to the link, but it shows a Yahoo! icon. Changing the "Y" to "D" shows a Dribble icon.

    I've also tried adding the ability to change it in theme-options.php like so:

    array(
    'id' => 'social-yelp',
    'type' => 'text',
    'title' => __(Yelp', 'mfn-opts'),
    'sub_desc' => __('Type your Yelp link here', 'mfn-opts'),
    'desc' => __('Icon won`t show if you leave this field blank' , 'mfn-opts'),
    ),

    But it doesn't show up in the dashboard.

    So, at a minimum, I'd like to know how/where to change the icon (I assume it's fontawesome.css), either how to add a new one or how to edit an existing one that I don't need (like Dribble).

    Bonus points for how to make it editable in the Social Icons dashboard.

    Thanks.

    Hmm... maybe I need to create my own icons in Illustrator, then save them as SVG and add to egfont.svg? Am I on the right track?
  • Ok, I think I *may* have figured this out for anybody following the thread in the future.

    The Social Icons are a web 'font' called "Socialico"

    Each icon is "mapped" to a key on your keyboard, so when you use Y for instance it's mapped to the Yahoo! icon, etc.

    Changing to different letters gives you different icons, but of course nothing that I need.

    So...

    Limuso includes the "font" via /fonts/socialico.css which includes the following "font-files"

    socialico-webfont.eot
    socialico-webfont.woff
    socialico-webfont.ttf'
    socialico-webfont.svg

    socialico-webfont.svg is editable and I've tried creating an svg icon and changing one of the glyphs to my new svg code, but it doesn't "take" on the website, so i'm not sure why it's not working.

    Any pointers would be appreciated, and if I figure it out first I'll share.
