Portfolio grid, thumbnail size, etc

I'm attempting to show featured images on my portfolio archive pages which are a consistent aspect ratio (height and width). I don't want to use flat, but rather have space between items. I would like to do this without cropping and creating special featured images, but rather have the images crop themselves. How would you suggest that I go about this?

I do not need captions below the featured images. I would like the portfolio item title to appear on hover.

That removes captions. Please see the first message in this discussion. The lack of need for captions was simply an addition to the need. Thanks.

I'll just create unique images to use as the featured image, that are a common aspect ratio. If there's another way to do this, let me know. I have a few installs of your theme right now and it would be nice to know if there was a way to make the featured images the same height without doing this.

The only possibility is to change the sizes in theme options>blog,portfolio&shop>featured image

I've built some other websites with your theme, including this one> http://www.vcoffices.com/our-projects/

The portfolio GRID works like a charm. All images in the portfolio archive display at the same height. Why is it working on the above website, but not working on the new site that I've created?

Why does the layout for GRID produce a masonry effect on this site?

This could be because you are choosing a larger size in the option then the image actually have and it will not resize/crop them because they are too small.

This is also happening to me, however I am sure that the images I am using are above 2048px, and I am cropping & resizing to 960x960. I have images that are showing with more height, and others with less height.

Do you know what could be happening? Yes, I did regenerate the thumbnails.
