Blog and Events

I'm trying to create two different areas, one for news and one for events. However, because I've been using the categories within posts, the link in the menu always reverts to where the blog is under the news page when I click through an event.

How can I keep these separate?

Hi,
if you are using only the blog then there is no way of separating those two. You have to use something different for the events. There is a plugin called Events Callendar which we support.

Okay so I've started using the events calendar, is there no way of changing how this looks?

There is also an unused widget area at the bottom and I'm not sure how to remove it.

We do not think there is any customization for the events callendar
The widget area should be present in appaerance>widgets
