how about editing the PHP that generates this? What file would that be? We're now stuck with "at "date" " .

You could try fixing it with localised jQuery script loaded on single post pages that will search for any instance of "in" and "at" inside particular DIV.

@levicfa If you want to modify file, then includes/content-single.php file should be modified. But of course we do not recommend to modify files.
