Updating theme to newest version, what do I need to do?

  Hi,
  Here is an instruction on how to update the theme:
  http://themes.muffingroup.com/betheme/documentation/#general
  Theme updates will not delete your content unless you have changed the files directly in which case we suggest using a child theme.
  We also recommend creating a backup file.
  Please remove the theme completely from your theme folder and install a fresh copy. Do not overwrite files.
  
  Remember to update only the parent theme, not the child theme.

  The instructions are very brief and not detailed at all so I can check what I need to do? Im currently using a child theme so do I need to update both? Can you detail the process I need to follow in order to update the main theme and the child theme?

  Please read the instructions very carefully and you will update the theme. You are asking about child theme updates when it is stated in bold that you do not have to update the child theme.
  What is unclear, where is the problem?
