How to change height of header with minimalist setting

I read in support/documentation that I can change the size of the space in the header on sub-pages (the space between the menu and the first content item - here is a screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/3owxEHE5o) by changing the setting in Theme Options/Header & Sub header/Header/Layout to "Minimalist without Header Space."

However, when I did this, the space became very very small to the point that the logo and menu changed colors or something, it overlaps the content, and it is not legible (here is a screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/CT94e1HmJkEW).

I would like that header to remain the same color as in the first screenshot, and the menu and logo to remain visible as in the first screenshot, but with the purple space beneath the logo and menu to be about half as high as it is now.

Can you help?
