Hi,
please go to theme options>pages>404 and select your own 404 page.
Just create a normal page and select it there.

I understand I create my own, where can I edit the existing one? I like the existing one, would just like to a couple of small changes to it.

Sorry but there are no changes possible to the existing one.
You would have to create your own. Its not hard, just a big image on the left and some text on the right.
