Related Post filter by date

Hi,
I have seen that the related post functionality shows the last three post prior to the one that has just been published. I imagined that this behaviour would be based upon categories or tags. Filtering related post by date is the expected behaviour? Would there be a way to change it?

The related posts are displaying the posts which are in this same category as the post which you are actually reading.
There is no way to change it in Theme Options.
The only way to change it is modifying the Wordpress Files, which we do not support.
