Hey,
you most likely have the "simple" style selected in theme options>global>general.
This is why all the items in the splash page look different. Change it to classic.

When you add an image item in the muffin builder you have the fileds to show captions and alt text.
You can also go to wordpress>media and fill in those fields for each image.
Lastly, you need to go to theme options>plugins&addons>addons and check the "show image alt text..." option for the lightbox.
