Caching and optimizing Betheme with WP rocket

Hi,

I installed the theme on a website and we are using google pagespeed to checkout the performance. It's saying we need to optimize javascript. We use Wp rocket for caching and optimizing but when we use combine js the site won't load anymore with multiple js errors. Does someone know how to prevent those errors and still optimize the website for best results in googe pagespeed?

  • Hi,

For optimization, I suggest using the minified version of JS theme files. They can be enabled in Betheme -> Theme options -> Performance.

    Thanks

  • Thanks Phil,

I enabled those options but the results are not getting better. Maybe I need to switch from caching plugin. Which one do you use? I will try some others tomorrow to see if the results are better.

  • I recommend W3 Total Cache. We support this plugin as we tested it with our theme.

    Best regards

  • Thanks Phil for your fast reaction, I will test w3 total cache too.

  • Hi Phil,

I'm back :-) I tried W3 total cache and it's better. Still not okay but we can live with the new scores. One thing google is saying to explicit set the width and height of images, I can do that with my image optimizer plugin but if i check that option the logo in the navigation bar is pressed together when the navigation bar is sticky. I made to screenshots of what happens when i switch on the option. I hope you know how to prevent this from happening.

Link to the website, I switched of the option because of the bug: https://exterior-coatings.com/

  • Hello,

I do not see that problem, did you solve it? Or do you have any steps to recreate it?

    thanks

  • I switched it of, because the site is live. In the screenshot you can see what happens when the explicit width is turned on. To recreate it you should install any caching plugin or image optimizer and turn on "force width and height" of images. After turning that on the logo in the navigation is squeezed.

Hopefully you can check ik in some development site instead of a live site. Otherwise I can turn the option on so you can check ik out but I can only do this for a little amount of time. I prefer the option of a development website.

  • Is that option available somewhere in W3 Total Cache? I do not see it.

Otherwise you have to tell me which plugin do you use to force that width and height.

    thanks

  • Sorry Pablo, I don't use w3 total cache anymore. I revert back to wp rocket because of better results. But the fix image dimension is set in my image optimizer plugin which is also free to download. https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/ under the basic settings of this plugin there is the option "add missing dimensions".

Hope you can see the problem with that plugin, sorry for the confusion.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  • Sorry, but we do not support that plugin and we do not have a clue how it works.

But, I found some topic on wordpress.org forum which could be helpful for you:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-exclude-images-from-automatic-optimization/

    thanks

  • Thanks, that option will only prevent the image from optimization, not from excluding the width and height options. I will check again to see if I can fix it myself. Thanks for your time!
