if you want to translate into just one language, from English to Portuguese, then Theme options > Translate section should be enough. But if you want to get multilingual website, then you need to use WPML plugin which is fully compatible with this theme. Also you can translate via .mo/.po files because theme is compatible with it as well and more info about this kind of translation you can read on http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress
We got .mo/.po files but english one They are stored in languages folder and all you need to do is download them on computer and translate into your language.
At this moment we don`t have as nobody never didn`t asked about it in the past. But we`ll think about this possibility with future updates. Thanks for suggestion!
I'm explain that, I create a child theme, but the translation files is in betheme/languages because my child theme is only for my client and help me to add some functions and specific styles, and my wordpress it's defined to pt_BR lang and not happen.
My wplang has pt_BR defined at wp-config.php and I copy all this folder and add my pt_BR translation, but translated only Admin stuff not the frontend site.
Thanks a lot for this update. But in accordance to your question, we simply do not have time for translations. Also, we can not be sure if the translations are ok if we do not speak in this language. So basically, people can put in those translations files whatever they want.
