I want the margins of the blog post to look like this..

The text spreads too far across the page.

I want to shorten width of the paragraphs on the page.

Looks like you want to change the grid width what can be done under Theme options > Global > General section. Or if you want to add the margin for the content only, please use the following css:

.single-post .the_content_wrapper { margin: 0 10% !important; }
