Sell Website with BeTheme to Client - License!?

edited February 2016 in Theme support
Hello everybody,

I purchased BeTheme and created a website based on BeTheme for an client.

I have indeed bought BeTheme and the license in the name of our company

Now I want to sell him this website. What should I consider in terms of license?

  • Hi,

if you want to sell site built with BeTheme, you should pass him license details. Or if you would be responsible for updates and other stuff, then you can keep it on your side.

    Thanks!
  • Hello,

    thanks for the answer.

So if I want to sell him the site and he will be responsible for updates, I have to send him the license pdf with the Purchase Code?
But in the license pdf is the licensee our company. Is that a problem?

Have I understood that correctly, that if we do the updates for our client, we can keep the license on our side? Regardless of where the site is hosted or somthing else!?

Must actually any license information on the website?

How should somebody know that the customer is entitled to use Betheme officially?

    Thanks in advance.

  • No, this shouldn't be a problem However, for more details about licenses, we suggest you to contact with Envato directly and they would be able to tell you much more than we do.
  • Hello,

thanks for the explanations. I dealt in detail with the licenses again and this is what I found striking:

Which license do I need for an end product that is freely accessible or freely distributed to users?

As long as the end users can freely access the end product, the Regular License is fine. There can be more than one end-user (the person who uses the end product, such as the end consumer) as long as there is only one, unique end product.

    Is my license transferable?

Generally, your license is not transferable. There are a few exceptions:

    1. If you are a freelancer / agency using the item for a single end product for one client. The license would in effect be transferred to the client.
    2. If you sell the single instance of an end product, such as a website installation. The license would in effect be transferred to the new owner.

If I get this right that means that my company can sell the end product (i.e. the website) and passes the license to our customer (send license to him as a pdf.). So I point him to the license details and delete the item from our system.

That means that he is then responsible for the right use of the website, i.e. free access to everything for his customers.

If I want to use BeTheme again I buy the regular license again and are then allowed to use it for a new single end product.

I'd appreciate an answer to be really sure that everything works out fine.

  • Sounds like you are right but like we wrote above, you need to contact with Envato because they keep all licenses on their side. As an author, we do not have any impact on it and we don't want to confuse you.
