Number of images saved

When uploading 1 image to a product and saving, somewhere between 16 and 20 images are saved in backend - for examble: /public_html/wp-content/uploads/2016/10
They are all smaller and different sizes. But 100 product will then have 2.000 images, and that uses a lot of space.
Why and how to do something about this..:-)

we are not sure if we understand your question. Do you mean to have all images exactly same sizes?
