I am struggling to get the featured image to show as background of title. It works fine on Pages, bot not on single blog entries. Could you pls tell where to adjust in options? Thanks

And that's why you need to use both: Featured image and Header Image. Featured Image would be for posts list but you can easily remove featured image from single post pages using below css:

if you mean to set header's background on single post pages, you need to use Header Image option under Post Options section.
