Changing background color header and popup contact form

#Header_wrapper { background-color: #ffffff;}
When the page loads there is a purple background and I want to change it into white. The contact popup form background is the sama colour as the page background so I want it to be darker.
I am trying to cnage these but even though i paste them in the custom css the background colours wont change.
What am i doing worng?
